FYE- First Year Eperience
The First Year Experience takes place during the first-year, or freshman year, of college and it is dedicated to equipping Nepantla students with skills, tools, and knowledge that continues to support their transition to Nevada State.
#TeamNepantla students who successfully completed the Summer Bridge will be enrolled in the following courses their first year at Nevada State
ENG 102: Composition II
Exploration of essay forms with particular attention to interpretation and argument; emphasis on analytical reading and writing, critical thinking, and research methodologies.
COM 110: Power, Culture, & Society
A theme-based class that employs participatory learning, media analysis, and collaborative projects to examine the way power influences contemporary social interactions.
Student Benefits of the First-Year Experience
- Meet with the Nepantla staff to discuss financial aid and scholarship exploration.
- Meet one-on-one with Nepantla Director for advising and academics.
- Meet one-on-one with #NepantlaPeerEducators to further mentorship and involvement on campus.
- Continue to develop relationships with faculty.
- Participate in Nepantla events to further cultivate a sense of belonging and community.
- Contribute to overall Nepantla support by interacting with previous cohorts.
