Michelle Cain
MPA, Director of Nursing Support Services
I’m thrilled to lead the Nursing Student Success Center, supporting nursing students achieve their goals. As a lifelong learner dedicated to public service, my career has been a mix of supporting students in higher education and serving my community in social service programs. My mission is to help students succeed in their academic journey and become our community’s future nurses.
As a first-generation student, I deeply understand the impact that education can have, and I’m passionate about helping others change their lives in a similar way. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology, Psychology, and Sociology from College of Idaho and my Master of Public Administration from Boise State University. I enjoy volunteering and helping my community and am especially passionate about supporting underserved and under-resourced individuals.
In my spare time I enjoy playing all sorts of card and board games, making pottery and crafts, camping and being on the water, and traveling with my partner. Sunny beaches are my happy place, and I try to see whales any time I’m near the ocean! I’m an Idaho native but am thrilled to build our new home in Nevada.

Jess Malik
MPH, Academic Success Coach
My name is Jaskeerat. However, I’ve gone by “Jess” since I was thirteen, and first saw the movie, Bend it Like Beckham. (There is no good phonetic spelling of my name, so I invite you to ask me about pronouncing it, in person. I don’t mind.) Aside from spending my first eight years of life in Los Angeles, and then, going back for college and grad school, I am a Las Vegas (technically Henderson) local. I mean, part of being a local is having moved here from California, right? I digress. I received my Master of Public Health degree, with an emphasis in Global Health Leadership, from USC, and my Bachelor of Arts in History and European Studies, with a minor in theology, from Loyola Marymount University (LMU). Most recently, I worked in Admissions and Recruitment, at Touro University Nevada. However, I’m so pleased to be back in Academic Success, my roots, especially at a great institution like Nevada State, with wonderful students, such as you all.
In my spare time, I cook a lot, watch a lot of Top Chef, Friends, and The West Wing reruns, and I love to read (as you could probably tell if you’ve visited my office).
I’m looking forward to getting to know all of you!
