Nevada State University is proud to announce that Nevadans will soon be able to show their Scorpion pride on the road, thanks to legislation signed by Governor Joe Lombardo on May 30, 2025, authorizing an official Nevada State license plate.
Senate Bill 181, sponsored by State Senator Michelee Cruz-Crawford and passed unanimously by the Nevada Legislature, establishes a specialty license plate celebrating Nevada State. The design features a sleek black background accented with the university’s signature gold and prominently displays the iconic Scorpion mascot.
Proceeds from the license plate will directly support Nevada State’s new athletics program and help address food insecurity among students, two critical initiatives aligned with the university’s commitment to student success and community impact.
“We’re thrilled to offer our community another way to show their pride and passion for Nevada State,” said Dr. DeRionne Pollard, President of Nevada State University. “This license plate is more than just a symbol of school spirit—it’s an investment in our students, our athletics, and the future of Nevada.”
“Nevada State University plays a vital role in producing the critical workforce roles of tomorrow, and I’m proud to support this new opportunity for Nevadans to show their Scorpion pride,” said Governor Joe Lombardo. “The funds raised through this license plate will directly benefit students and the university’s new athletics program, helping to build a brighter future for NSU and Nevada.”
“Nevada State is charting a bold new path in higher education, especially for students from historically underrepresented and low-income backgrounds,” said Senator Michelee Cruz-Crawford. “This license plate is a celebration of their grit and determination and a way for all Nevadans to stand behind them.”
Nevada State’s license plate joins the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and the University of Nevada, Reno, allowing supporters to contribute to their alma mater or favorite institution in a meaningful way.
The license plate will be available to order through the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles this fall.
