From working full-time and caring for her family to pursuing a career in nursing, Nevada State alumna Julie Carter embodies the Scorpion spirit and determination.
“I would be considered an unconventional student. I worked full-time while also caring for my family, all while trying to ...reach my goals. I needed a school that fit my lifestyle — and at Nevada State, I was able to achieve that.”
After graduating from the BSN program and becoming a registered nurse, Julie continued her education to become a family nurse practitioner (FNP). “It’s opened up so many doors for me. Nevada State gave me the solid foundation I needed to build my career.”
Because of the support she received as a student, Julie was inspired to give back. Now, alongside her husband, she owns and operates Poki Bowl in Henderson. To show their support during Scorpions Give, now through April 30, $1 from every order will be donated to the Nevada State University Foundation — helping provide student-specific, quality care and continuing the mission that once supported her.
Thank you to alumni Julie and Poki Bowl Henderson for giving back to our students and believing in the power of education. 💛

Aspiring film director Mia Rodriguez (@mini.mia19) first dreamed of Hollywood stardom at five years old. “When I walked on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, I asked how I could get my own star. People said I had to be an actress or a singer, but neither felt like me. Then I learned directors could earn... stars too, and I never looked back.” 🎬
Determined to make mini Mia proud, she immersed herself in film — taking classes throughout high school, creating short films, and pursuing a degree in Visual Media. Inspired by visionary directors like Jordan Peele, Mia’s passion for storytelling drives her every day.
“I’ve worked hard to get to this moment, and I’m so grateful for my family’s support. I graduate on May 10th, 2025, and I can’t wait to see you in theaters for one of my future films.”
Support students like Mia and participate in Sorpions Give our annual day of giving on April 30! 🦂💛
