Program Overview

Earn your degree, your way.

At Nevada State University, we value pioneering thinkers, independence, and innovation. We created the Interdisciplinary Studies program to support these values, which allows you to design your own individualized course of study and focus on your own particular interests.

Instead of choosing a traditional major, Interdisciplinary Studies students select two concentrations that combine to become the equivalent of a single major. This allows hundreds of possible degree combinations, such as:

  • Education and Psychology
  • Health & Wellness and Promotion
  • Environmental Science and Business
  • English and History

Each combination allows students to look at problems from multiple perspectives and develop innovative solutions. To help students explore the ways their two concentrations intersect, Nevada State offers two independent courses, ISC 300 and 495. In these classes, instructors provide individual guidance and personalized attention that leads students through the completion of a capstone project. This project provides concrete evidence of the student’s abilities and can be used on the job market or when applying to graduate school.

Career Outlook

A Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies offers students the flexibility to design a personalized academic path that integrates multiple fields of study. By combining disciplines such as business, health, communication, or the arts, graduates develop broad, adaptable skills suited for careers in project management, nonprofit leadership, education, or public service.

Whether solving complex problems, bridging diverse perspectives, or pursuing unique career goals, an Interdisciplinary Studies BA or BS empowers students to shape an education—and a future—that reflects their passions and ambitions.
