Programs & Events
Center for Teaching & Learning Excellence
The work of the CTLE focuses on the three areas of Educational Development:
- Instructional Development;
- Faculty Development;
- Organizational Development
Through programming and events, teaching resources, data collection, feedback and assessment, the CTLE works to carry out the university’s focus on teaching and learning excellence.
Supporting Instruction
General Consultations
Faculty receive one-on-one support from CTLE personnel on teaching topics such as course design, teaching strategies, assessment, or technology; general discussion; request teaching observations; review course evaluations; receive formative feedback on your teaching; interactions (email, Zoom, face-to-face) are confidential and tailored to your individual needs and goals.
Canvas Support
The CTLE provides faculty with consultation on anything related to the Canvas Learning Management System.
Course Design
Theory meets practice. The CTLE support faculty implementing UDL principles, syllabus planning, and any other structural help for courses of all modalities.
Faculty Development
Peer Observations / Teaching Triangles
A reciprocal observation and reflection program to support faculty development in pedagogy. Faculty can curate the observation based on individual need and use results for review or other.
Faculty Learning Communities
Small interdisciplinary groups of faculty (ideal size 5-10 members); meet for five one-hour sessions per semester; focused on a topic of interest; theory or project-based. FLCs culminate with a presentation to the campus community.
Workshops
Focused on a particular topic, presenters will share innovative teaching tips and evidence-based practices; opportunities to connect and network with faculty from across the campus.
Interfolio Support
Faculty receive guidance on preparing academic portfolios; sessions offered annually in conjunction with Schools and the Office of the Provost.
Organizational Development
New Faculty Orientation
New faculty orientation is a CTLE-run onboarding program held before the start of the new academic calendar year (Fall) to introduce new faculty to campus resources, teaching tools, and colleagues.
Campus Partnerships
Collaborative working relationships that connect the CTLE with internal NSU departments, other educational institutions, or local organizations.
In addition, faculty feedback and communication are a priority going forward. The CTLE is committed to attending all Faculty Senate open sessions and building a Faculty Advisory Board (FAB). All CTLE work is assessed and informed by research/data and strategically planned.
Communication to the CTLE should be sent to ctle@nevadastate.edu.
