The Arts
AT NEVADA STATE UNIVERSITY
Nevada State’s Office for the Arts was founded in 2014. Hosting university-wide events, performances, and programs, it’s also home to the Marydean Martin Writers’ Project, the Thalia Dondero Gallery, the NS Collections & Galleries, and The Artist at Work Series.
About the NS Collections & Galleries
In 2014 our first initiative, The Campus as Museum, aspired to make art accessible for all by featuring the work of Nevada artists on every floor of every building at the university. Since then, the Office for the Arts has added the Thalia Dondero Gallery and other galleries across campus for temporary exhibitions. The collections and galleries are open to the public, parking at Nevada State University is free.
Visitor Guidelines
While touring the NS Collections & Galleries, you are welcome to take photographs and video for personal, noncommercial usage, and as a task during the hunt. Flash, lights, tripods, and selfie-sticks are prohibited. For your safety and the safety of the artwork, please stay at least 12 inches away from the artwork, and do not touch, climb, or modify indoor and outdoor sculptures in any way.
There’s one exception to this guideline. We invite you to participate in our University tradition of taking your photo while standing in the claws of Scorpion by Ramon Sanchez. Nevada State University Alums tell us that touching Scorpion’s claw will bring you good luck!
