Our purpose is to ensure nursing student success by providing support resources for the unique needs of Nevada State students. It is our goal that each nursing student graduates and is prepared to deliver safe, competent, and caring service.

Nursing Student Success Center Staff

Our student support team includes a Director, Academic Success Coach, Nursing Support Services Assistant, and more than 20 nursing student Course Assistants (CAs) who fulfill peer support roles, including: Supplemental Instruction Leaders, Tutors, Cohort Peer Mentors, Peer Coaches, and Peer Assistant Lab Specialists in our simulation lab. 

R’Asya Philbert

MPH, Academic Success Coach

Hi everyone! My name is R’Asya (pronounced “are-Asia”). I’m originally from Manassas, Virginia (Northern Virginia) about 40 minutes from Washington, D.C., but I’ve lived in Las Vegas for a little more than half a decade now.

I earned my Master of Public Health with a concentration in Social and Behavioral Health from UNLV and my Bachelor of Science in Biology, with a minor in Diversity and Inclusion in Health and Human Development, from Penn State University. Before joining the team, I worked as a Student Success Coach at UNLV.

My passion for working with students comes from my own college experience. Moving away from home for college was a new experience for my family and me, and starting over in a place where I knew no one was both exciting and challenging. Luckily, someone from my high school who was a few years ahead of me reached out during my freshman year and took me under her wing. Her guidance and support helped me navigate the transition to college, and over time she became one of my closest friends and mentors. Her kindness inspired me to pay that support forward, and it is a big part of why I’m so passionate about helping students feel supported throughout their academic journeys.

Outside of work, I bake A LOT, and I love to read. I also enjoy listening to music, going to concerts and festivals, dancing, and traveling. So far, I’ve visited 22 different states, 11 countries, and 3 continents. I’m always looking for a new recipe to try, a song to listen to, or a new place to explore, so please send me your suggestions. 🙂
