Dear Nevada State Community,
Nevada State University is saddened to share the passing of William “Bill” Martin, a longtime friend of the university, Trustee Emeritus of the Nevada State University Foundation Board, and one of the founders of Nevada State College. Bill passed away on August 10 at the age of 84, surrounded by his family.
Bill’s connection to Nevada State reaches back to our earliest days. He was among those who believed in the need for an institution like Nevada State and the opportunities it could create for students and families throughout Southern Nevada. As the first Foundation Chair, his support, leadership, and commitment helped lay the foundation for the university we know today.
Throughout his life, Bill was known for his integrity, generosity, curiosity, and ability to make people feel valued. He built a distinguished career in banking and dedicated significant time to serving his community through numerous civic organizations and boards. His service to the university and the Nevada State University Foundation reflected his longstanding commitment to Nevada State and its students.
Bill’s legacy lives on through the institution he helped establish and the thousands of students and graduates whose lives have been shaped by Nevada State.
We extend our deepest condolences to Bill’s family, friends, and all those who knew and loved him.
We are grateful for Bill’s many years of friendship and service to Nevada State and for the lasting legacy he leaves our university community.
