Dr. Shartriya Collier is a Professor and former Interim Dean and Associate Dean in the School of Education at Nevada State University. Dr. Collier was also founder of the NSU Black student recruitment and retention program Sankofa. Previously, she served as Professor at California State University, Northridge, where she taught courses in bilingual education, TESOL, literacy development, and multicultural education. She has held numerous leadership roles, including Director of the LA Times Literacy Center, MA Program Coordinator, and Co-PI of federally funded teacher pipeline grants. Dr. Collier earned her B.A. in Spanish from Xavier University of Louisiana, her M.A. from Teachers College, Columbia University, and her doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction with a TESOL emphasis from Temple University. She is the co-author of multiple books and has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals. Her research focuses on biliteracy development, AI and teacher education, immigrant family literacy, culturally sustaining pedagogy, and language teacher preparation.
