New Student Orientation (NSO)

Attending college is a momentous occasion in your life. We recognize that this time can be fun and exciting but is also a bit scary. Orientation programs at Nevada State are designed to assist you with the transition process to college. Orientation is the first building block to develop the traits necessary to be successful in your Nevada State collegiate experience.

Questions about orientation should be directed to orientation@nevadastate.edu and 702-992-2134

New First-Year Students

New Student Orientation is designed for first year students and will begin their collegiate experience at NS.  Through New Student Orientation students will:

  • Build connections with the college community
  • Engage with campus resources
  • Experience the student life of a true Scorpion

Attending orientation is mandatory for all first-year students. In addition to attending one of the below Orientation dates, first year students MUST attend the Scorpion Smart Start from August 19th-August 21st. More information on this event will be provided to students via email. Students will receive reminders consistently until they complete registration for both events.

Fall 2026 Orientation

New Student Orientation for first year students admitted for Fall 2026 will be hosted on the following dates. Students will receive emails with RSVP information beginning March 1st.

Creating Your Fall Schedule

Before your New Student Orientation (NSO), you should meet with your academic advisor to create your Fall schedule. This meeting is an important first step in your Nevada State journey and helps ensure you are enrolled in the courses you need before attending Orientation.

To schedule your advising appointment, call the Academic Advising Center at (702) 992-2160.

New Transfer Students

Transfer Student Orientation is designed for students who are transferring to Nevada State from a different institution or who are returning to NS after an extended leave of absence.  The Transfer Student Support Hub serves as an important virtual platform for new transfer students to ease the transition to NS. Through interaction with the Transfer Student Support Hub, students will:

  • Learn information about important campus resources at NS
  • Find ways to become engaged with student life at NS

All newly admitted transfer students must meet with an academic advisor.
