Department Overview
The Department of Psychology and Counseling at Nevada State University is dedicated to providing students opportunities to learn the science of psychology and practice of counseling to apply relevant concepts to their own lives and in their careers, to support and give back to their communities, and to have tools with which they can create a more equitable and ethical society. We aim to strengthen students’ critical thinking skills and sense of self-efficacy to help them navigate an information-rich society and confidently enter various careers and graduate programs.

Potential Careers
A bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Nevada State provides a strong foundation for a wide range of career paths because at its core, psychology is the study of people—how they think, feel, and behave. Graduates often find roles in corporate settings such as human resources, marketing, user experience research, and project coordination; in nonprofit organizations doing advocacy, program development, or community outreach; and in self-employment as business owners, consultants, or content creators. On the path to earning the degree, students develop valuable skills including the ability to learn and analyze information critically, communicate effectively both in writing and speech, and collaborate in diverse teams. While many Psychology majors, especially those minoring Counseling, pursue graduate study focusing on a mental health career, others go on to law school, MBA programs, or Ph.D. tracks in fields like cognitive psychology, social psychology, or neuroscience.
