Nevada State University’s School of Education will host its second annual Education Summit on Wednesday, Sept. 30, bringing together education leaders, school and community stakeholders, and partner organizations for a day of collaboration and conversation.
Presented in partnership with Opportunity 180, this year’s summit will focus on the theme “Supporting the Whole Child, Across Every School.” Participants will explore how strong partnerships and comprehensive support systems can help students thrive regardless of the school they attend.
The day will begin with a special welcome breakfast hosted by Nevada State University President Dr. Sandra Richtermeyer. The gathering will provide education and community leaders with an opportunity to meet Richtermeyer and connect with one another before the summit begins.
A featured fireside chat will explore the future of student support systems nationally and in Nevada. The conversation will feature Dr. Victor Wakefield, Nevada superintendent of public instruction, and Derrell Bradford, president of 50CAN: The 50-State Campaign for Achievement Now.
The summit will also include a panel of leaders representing education and school-based services. Panelists include Dr. Tiffani B. Curtis, superintendent of Legacy Traditional Schools; Nancy Kuhles, M.S., CCC-SLP, speech-language pathologist; and Dr. Meski Renn, director of Related Services for the Clark County School District.
Afternoon breakout sessions will examine current data, emerging trends and workforce challenges affecting Nevada’s students and schools. Sessions will focus on teacher education, speech-language pathology and school psychology, including the need for qualified professionals in each field and the programs and community services Nevada State offers in response.
Through these conversations, participants will consider collaborative strategies, innovative partnerships and wraparound support that can strengthen schools and expand opportunities for Nevada students.
