    Frequently Asked Questions

    What is Direct Admissions?

The Direct Admissions program at Nevada State University offers admission to qualified students without requiring them to submit a traditional application or pay an application fee. In partnership with selected high schools in the Clark County School District, students are invited to participate in the program if their high school determines that they meet our minimum admissions requirements.  For Nevada State University, this means that you are on track to earn your high school diploma and carry an unweighted cumulative high school GPA of 2.5 or higher. Additionally, you must have senior class standing and be enrolled at one of our three Direct Admissions partner schools:

    • Desert Oasis High School
    • East Career & Technical Academy
    • Rancho High School

Qualified high school students will be admitted during their senior year of high school with the ability to enroll at Nevada State as a first-year student in the following fall semester.

What is the goal of the Direct Admissions program?

The Direct Admissions program aims to make it easier to navigate the admissions process and increase the number of students who enroll in college.  Eliminating the application requirement is central to achieving this goal, but we also provide other support resources to help you on your journey to college.  For example, all Direct Admissions students are assigned their own Enrollment Coach – a current Nevada State student who can provide helpful guidance on your transition to college.

What kinds of colleges and universities are participating in Direct Admissions?

This particular Direct Admissions program is unique to Nevada State University. However, this type of program has become increasingly popular at many colleges and universities across the country, including statewide efforts in Minnesota, California, and Idaho. Since its inception, the program has been well-regarded for simplifying the admissions process and increasing the number of students who enroll in a college or university.

How did I get selected for Direct Admissions?

To date, Nevada State University has established a Direct Admissions partnership with three high schools: Desert Oasis High School, East Career & Technical Academy, and Rancho High School. Administrators at each high school identify all seniors who meet our minimum admission requirements and help us invite them to be a part of the Direct Admission program on behalf of Nevada State University. The invitation is sent to eligible students via email and a physical letter distributed at the high school.

How do I accept an offer to participate in Direct Admissions?

If you are eligible for Direct Admissions, you can visit this page on Nevada State University’s website to fill out our Admission Form and receive an exclusive Welcome Packet along with additional details about upcoming opportunities to visit campus or engage with us online.

Do I still need to pay an application fee?

No application fee is required of participants in this program!

What if I am eligible for Direct Admissions but already paid the application fee?

We know that some students may not have been aware of the program at the time of application.  We want to make things right for you and will refund your application fee in full.  Please contact us at admissions@nevadastate.edu or 702-992-2130 for information about how to secure your refund and receive our Direct Admissions Welcome Packet.

When will I hear back about my official admission to the university?

We can’t wait to welcome you to Nevada State University!  A response from NS will be sent between 1-3 working days from the time of submitting your Admission Form.  If you have any additional questions in the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact us at admissions@nevadastate.edu or 702-992-2130.

Where can I go for more information about Direct Admissions?

You can feel free to contact our office directly at admissions@nevadastate.edu or 702-992-2130.  High school students are strongly encouraged to reach out to the Nevada State University recruiter for their high school.  They are here to help you!

Additionally, we invite interested parents/students to attend one of the Information Sessions that Nevada State University will be hosting at our partner high schools this fall.  The dates and times of these events are still to be determined, but we will share that information and update this website as soon as the details are finalized.

Do I have to participate in Direct Admissions?

There is no obligation whatsoever to participate in our Direct Admissions program.  We strongly encourage participation if you are an eligible student who plans to attend Nevada State in Fall 2026.  We believe it will be the best way for you to navigate the admissions process.

Also, remember that being admitted to Nevada State through this program is not a commitment to attend the university – it simply means you are one important step closer to becoming an NS student if you choose to do so.

How can I get help paying for college?

After your acceptance you will be invited to attend information sessions with your Recruiter to cover your scholarship eligibility.

If you meet our criteria for the Scorpion Academic Scholarship you will receive email updates.  We also encourage you to check out this Scholarship website for additional information about the excellent scholarships that may be available to you.

You also can get essential information about tuition costs and our exceelent financial support options on our Costs & Aid webpage.

Do I still need to apply for financial aid?

Yes, please see your high school counselor for assistance to attend the FAFSA night events that will be scheduled at various CCSD locations beginning October thru November.

Your Recruiter will also provide additional information regarding the FAFSA night events.

If I/(My Student) already submitted an application will I/they be included in this program?

Students who have already completed the general first-time student application, will receive communications and be included as part of this program provided they have the unweighted high school GPA of 2.5 and above.

What if my student does not have the required 2.5 unweighted GPA, can they still receive admissions to attend Nevada State University?

If your student does not meet our admissions requirements, which specify an unweighted cumulative high school GPA of 2.5 or higher, they are not eligible for the Direct Admissions program. However, they can still apply for admission to the college as an alternative admit using our standard application.
