Program Overview

Empowering every child, one learner at a time.

The Bachelor of Arts in Special Education with a Concentration in Autism will prepare graduates to provide individualized education for students identified with high incidence disabilities and autism spectrum disorders in K-12 classrooms in Nevada.

Graduates will be prepared to assess and teach academic, behavioral, and functional life skills for students with disabilities. In addition to fulfilling college requirements for a bachelor’s degree, graduates will also meet Nevada Department of Education requirements to be licensed in Special Education Generalist and endorsed in Special Education Autism. There is a shortage of Special Education teachers in Nevada and across the United States and employment prospects are good.

Our graduates in special education often take positions in Nevada public school districts as well as in charter, independent, and private schools.

Career Outlook

A Bachelor of Arts in Special Education – Autism prepares students to teach and support children with diverse learning needs in inclusive and specialized classroom settings. Program coursework includes general and special education pedagogy and methods for learners in grades K-12 and specialized courses in Autism Spectrum Disorders.
