Our Mission
The Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence (CTLE) provides professional development opportunities for part-time and full-time faculty at Nevada State University to improve student learning outcomes and support the university’s academic mission.
Faculty Learning Outcomes
Through participation in CTLE programming, faculty will be able to:
• Distinguish among pedagogical perspectives and techniques to inform their instruction and work.
• Incorporate evidence-based best practices in course design, instructional delivery, and instructional technology into their instruction and work.
• Develop analysis and reflective skills through participation in a diverse scholarly community.

Programs & Services
Individual Support
Faculty receive one-on-one coaching from a CTLE developer on teaching topics such as course design, teaching strategies, assessment, or technology; discuss your successes and challenges; request teaching observations; review course evaluations; receive formative feedback on your teaching; interactions (email, Zoom, face-to-face) are confidential and tailored to your individual needs and goals.
Workshops
Focused on a particular topic, these events typically last 60-90 minutes; presenters will share innovative teaching tips and evidence-based practices; opportunity to connect and network with faculty from across the campus.
Faculty Learning Communities
Small interdisciplinary groups of faculty (ideal size 8-10 members); meet every three or four weeks; focused on a topic of interest; theory or project-based.
Teaching Academy Certificates
Faculty can pursue the Teaching Academy: Foundations of Teaching Certificate which can be completed at your own pace over a one or two-year period; learning experiences include workshops, faculty learning communities, Teaching Circles, and reflective practice.
Mid-semester Feedback (SGID)
Receive mid-term feedback from your students; at the end of one class session, the instructor leaves the classroom while the CTLE staff member conducts a 15-minute guided conversation with students; feedback is presented to the instructor at a follow-up consultation; available for both face-to-face and online courses. Portfolio Support
Tenure-track faculty receive guidance on preparing academic portfolios; sessions offered annually in conjuction with Schools and the Office of the Provost.
