Overview
Nevada State University is committed to providing equal employment opportunities and maintaining an inclusive workplace for all employees. In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the ADA Amendments Act of 2008 (ADAAA), the University prohibits discrimination against qualified individuals with disabilities and provides reasonable accommodations when appropriate.
Reasonable accommodations are modifications or adjustments that enable qualified applicants and employees with disabilities to participate in the application process and perform the essential functions of their position. Employees or applicants who need a workplace accommodation are encouraged to contact Human Resources to begin the interactive accommodation process.

Definition of Disability
Under the ADA, an individual with a disability is a person who:
- Has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities;
- Has a record of such an impairment; or
- Is regarded as having such an impairment
Definition of a Qualified Individual
A qualified individual is a person with a disability who can perform the essential functions of a position, with or without a reasonable accommodation.

Submit a Request
Employees may request an accommodation by contacting the ADA Coordinator, their supervisor, or another designated University representative. The employee will be provided with the necessary accommodation forms.

Provide Documentation
Employees complete the accommodation request form and, when needed, submit medical documentation from a qualified healthcare provider to support the request.
Engage in the Interactive Process
The ADA Coordinator, employee, and supervisor work together to discuss job responsibilities, limitations, and potential accommodation options to identify an effective solution.
Accommodation Review and Decision
The University reviews the request, supporting documentation, and operational considerations to determine a reasonable accommodation. The decision is communicated in writing.
Implementation of Approved Accommodations
Human Resources coordinates the implementation of approved accommodations and provides support as needed.
Ongoing Review
Accommodations may be reviewed periodically to ensure they remain effective and continue to meet the employee’s needs.
